In this week's Old Testament reading from Jeremiah, God uses a powerful image to describe the unfaithfulness of His people: "they have forsaken me, the fountain of living water, and dug out cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns that can hold no water." (Jeremiah 2:13). The idea of life-giving water is used all throughout the Scriptures to speak of God's own power and presence at work within His creation.
